Mum of six learning to dream again

Shell Williams, from Wales, mum of six (two of her children have severe disabilities) had to find a way to make money from home while being a carer. A giver at heart, Shell was trapped in the benefits system, against her will, due to the severity of her boy’s disabilitiesis. Now she is a Business Mentor for Business Wales. With over a decade of experience empowering women, Shell is a co-host for Swansea Women in Business Club and she accepted our invitation to share her story with our readers, to inspire us all.

What is your definition of being rich?

Living the life you want to create whilst supporting others to achieve their dreams and desires. That’s where the legacy begins and ends. When you make a true impact on peoples lives by helping them get what they want, you become like a conduit of happiness. There is nothing better than to put a smile on someone’s face. To be rich is the aim of so many, yet most do not know the true meaning of having another day with the people you love. My disabled sons have taught me this. Everyday is very precious.

Mum Academy – what is the story behind your vision?

I am a mum of six and two of my children have severe disabilities. I had to find a way to make money from home while being a carer. I was stuck in the benefits system, without wishing to be, but I had no other option at that time due to the severity of my boy’s disabilities. My son who is blind wants to become a millionaire, so I decided to help him study this possibility. For eight years I did research about millionaire and billionaires and I grew my knowledge any way I could. Since I realised how many other women like me, mum- stuck- at- home, are trying to make a better life for themselves and their family. I also learned that my story resonated with them and I decided to deepen my research and start thinking about how best to help them achieve their dreams come true. My desire to help others turned into a business, Mum Academy, and eleven months later we are developing a support platform to help them change their status quo, and go from part-time worker to millionaire.

What were the top challenges when you started Mum Academy?

The main challenge was to think out of the box. I have had to pull in so many favours and have shared my vision numerous times and sharing gave me the biggest strength. I have pitched to well over 255 people in that time and 254 wanted to come on board. Its all about passion!!!

What are the top wins you achieved since Mum Academy started?

I think our conversion rate, interest generated, out uniqueness as we do business differently, but also just sharing my personal story and showing other mums that, against all challenges, your mindset is what determines what you achieve in life.

What would you do, if you had a magic wand?

I want to impact the world more and that’s just phenomenal, thank you very much for sharing my story. I’m creating a legacy that goes beyond infinity and that will do!
