The weeks after the clocks go back are the natural time to bring winter clothes forward and pack summer away. The swap is also the one moment each year when every item passes through your hands, which makes it the best chance to decide what earns its place.
Clear as you swap
- Take everything out. Empty the wardrobe and drawers onto the bed so you see the full collection at once. It is much easier to judge what you own when it is not hidden behind other things.
- Ask three questions. Did you wear it this year? Does it fit now? Would you buy it again today? Anything that fails all three goes into a bag for a charity shop or a clothing bank.
- Fix or let go. Set aside anything that needs a button, a zip or a hem, and take it to be mended within the month. If it is still waiting by spring, it can go.
