Your Child's School Probably Has No Single Rule on AI
Where a rule does exist, students say it changes from one classroom to the next, so the question worth asking at back to school night is narrower than whether the school allows it.

Ask your child's school whether it has a rule on AI and there is a good chance the honest answer depends on which teacher you ask. RAND surveyed more than a thousand students this year, and only about a third said their school had one rule that applied across the whole school. Where a rule did exist, many said it was not applied the same way from classroom to classroom.
Parents are now judging schools on this. In a survey this summer, the National School Choice Awareness Foundation found that 78 percent said a school's approach to AI matters when they are weighing up options for their child. Very few want it banned. Nearly half think schools should actively build AI into how children learn, about a third want it used in limited or moderate ways, and around one in five want little or none of it.
