The Netherlands Claims Six of the World's Top 11 Cities for Quality of Life in 2026
The Hague in first place for a fourth year running, part of a sweep that leaves six of the world's eleven best-scoring cities inside one small country.

From the dunes above Scheveningen beach, the North Sea stretches flat and grey toward England. Turn inland, and a twenty-minute bicycle ride carries you past the glass chambers of the International Criminal Court, through the government quarter around the Binnenhof and into quiet residential streets where the average commute barely exceeds twenty minutes each way. The Hague packs an international capital, a seat of government and a compact residential city into eleven kilometres of coastline and a handful of square miles. That combination has just earned it a fourth consecutive year at the top of Numbeo's Quality of Life Index, the most closely watched ranking of urban living conditions in the world.
The 2026 edition holds a bigger surprise than the four-peat itself. Of the eleven highest-scoring cities on the planet, six sit inside one small country roughly the size of Switzerland.
